"Today's Karamay has not only formed a petroleum and petrochemical industry system, scientific research system, management system and guarantee system with integrated upstream and downstream and complete industrial chain, but also realized the historical leap to modern large oil and gas fields and national petroleum and petrochemical bases. After 60 years of ecological transformation, it has developed into a modern livable city with a 450000 population, an urban green coverage rate of 43%, and a per capita green area of 11.5 square meters." Chen Xinfa said.
Wang Dongjin, a member of the party group and deputy general manager of the China National Petroleum Corporation, said that the discovery of the Karamay Oilfield has provided New China with a steady stream of industrial blood and has also removed China's oil-poor label.
